A look inside our IVF lab

The success of any IVF cycle is highly dependent on the quality of services provided by the embryologists and andrologists in the IVF lab, and the training, processes, procedures and equipment that support their intricate work. Our centralized IVF lab is optimally equipped to handle every aspect of an IVF cycle, from processing semen samples to fertilizing eggs and monitoring and cryopreserving embryos.

  • Andrology services, including semen analysis, sperm washing for use in IVF, and sperm freezing
  • Embryology services, in which embryos are created and undergo procedures, incubation and and monitoring during the development phase prior to embryo transfer
  • ICSI, or intracytoplasmic sperm injection, in which a single carefully chosen sperm is injected directly into each egg to achieve fertilization
  • Cryopreservation and storage of frozen eggs, sperm and embryos

See the science side of IVF

If you ask our patients what they love most about working with us, many will tell you how much they enjoy the rare opportunity to discover the science side of IVF. Every patient gets the chance to work directly with our scientific director, David Richards, PhD, HCLD, ELD, throughout their IVF cycle.

A skilled and highly trained embryologist and IVF lab director, Dr. Richards meets regularly with patients, co-leading every IVF cycle in close collaboration with our medical director, Lawrence S. Amesse, MD, PhD, HCLD.

This unique collaboration of the clinical and scientific sides of IVF results in outstanding outcomes for our patients, as well as an opportunity for every patient to learn about the scientific aspects of how their future baby is created in our Utah IVF laboratory.

Our IVF lab directors’ certifications

Our Utah IVF laboratory is also rare in that both Dr. Richards and Dr. Amesse are certified by the American Board of Bioanalysis as High-Complexity Laboratory Directors. This means that our IVF lab benefits from having not just one, but two experienced professionals who have met high standards for performing high complexity testing under strict regulations, and who have the advanced education and training required to ensure lab safety and effective procedures to support every IVF cycle.

Our IVF lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and unequalled expertise, all designed to maximize our IVF outcomes while ensuring the highest level of safety and protection for the eggs, sperm and embryos entrusted to our care.
